London’s first tigella kitchen has arrived! I didn’t know what it was either, but I’m glad I ventured to newly opened Manitoba one lunchtime to get a taste of authentic Italy on New Oxford Street. Tigella is a circular shaped stuffed bread from Northern Italy. Italy has blessed us with pizza and pasta and now it’s time to make room for the tigella. The bakery-like smell here is irresistible in the morning and I’ve walked passed here a couple (many) times on the way to work enjoying the smell and samples of carb heaven.
Tigella is a bit like a thinner version of a burger or panini, but so much prettier, a sophisticated sandwich maybe. Served like a slider, you’ll need at least a few to make up a meal!
I tried the aubergine parmagiana tigella. I was disappointed that there were only two vegetarian options and the veggie burger tigella wasn’t available that day limiting me to only one option. However, I did enjoy my first tigella experience. Carbing it up, I also opted for the vedure focaccia (olive paté, mushroom, broccoli and aubergine) which was tasty and vegan friendly.
Expect stylish décor and an open kitchen to peak at the artful food being prepared. The menu consists of a range of Italian food from fine dining to casual bites for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The service is good and the waiters are happy to explain the menu and specialties. There are also take-away deli options if you’re on the go.
