Kalifornia Kitchen

Instagram chic Kalifornia Kitchen resembles what you can imagine a hipster, vegan cafe in California to look like with aesthetics being a priority here. The popping pink, wall quotes and flower walls are a dream for diners looking for photo opps for the gram.

From the get go, I had a good gut feeling because you can book a table (via OpenTable) –it’s the small things that make the whole experience of dining out convenient and enjoyable. Lots of new vegan eateries sadly don’t take reservations and it honestly puts me off going. After a long day at work when there’s a high chance of rain in London, most people do not want to queue or wait for a table in the cold. However, I am very pleased that there are lots of new vegan restaurants catering to the the rising demand for plant based food whether they take bookings or not.

On to the food…
What we ate
Jackfruit Tacos
Klassic Kalifornia Burger
Guac and chips (side)
The menu is short and sweet (although I still had trouble deciding what to have – vegetarians aren’t used to being so spoiled for choice).
The jackfruit tacos were rich in flavour and much better than other jackfruit based tacos I’ve tried before. The jackfruit was seasoned well and garnished with pickles, capers and baby tomatoes filled with a garlicy oil/sauce. It came with a side of kale of course -– the symbol of veganism and the wonderful superfood of last year. Kalifornia Kitchen even has a fun quote on their wall saying ‘Don’t kale my vibe’. Celery seems to be in the running for superfood of 2019.

The burger was also delicious. I don’t usually opt for a fake meat burger but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It includes the Moving Mountains burger patty which has been one of the most popular meat alternative burgers produced. I requested guac as an addition to the burger which worked wonderfully.

Dessert
Dessert was by far the best part for me. We tried all three available to ensure we had no regrets and they didn’t disappoint.
Matcha cheescake
Pecan pie
Sticky toffee pudding
Pecan pie, matcha cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding
The pecan pie really stole our hearts – definitely one to try if you visit Kalifornia Kitchen.
Overall I was impressed with everything we ate here and the service was really good so I’ll be back soon, next time to try the breakfast options.
