Cha Chaan Teng

Another week, another soft launch. From the moment you walk in to Cha Chaan Teng in Holborn you can feel the touch of retro dining in Hong Kong with the colourful lighting, marble top booths and urban art. Overall there was a good vegetarian selection including savoury pancakes, an omelette, a large selection of sides and bao buns. I liked the contemporary vibe, but I wouldn’t say I was blown away by the food and eager to come back. The booking process also didn’t set the best impression before because the Cha Chaan Teng reservation team were not great with responding to emails.

Yauatcha City

Yauatcha City by Alan Yau overlooks Broadgate Circle in the heart of the city and provides a sophisticated trendy take on dim sum which is considered a casual street food in China. I was impressed with the artistically presented food and excellent service throughout the meal. Good vegetarian selection with different styles of mushroom being central to many of the dishes. The patisserie holds beautiful desserts including exotic flavoured macaroons and chocolates so save some room! I would highly recommend the £29 9-dish tasting menu Bookatable offer as a great way to try a selection of Yauatcha’s specialties for a reasonable price.
