Bubbledogs Hip Hop Brunch

Bubbledogs has been kicking for a while now, and it was a huge deal when it first opened. It was one of the first restaurants in London to pair the casual hot dog with champagne and transform a casual delight into a gourmet meal. The trend has been successfully going in London since with everything from hot dogs to kebabs becoming fancy dining experiences!

Brick work, chalk boards and high stool tables gives Bubbledogs a trendy touch of New York in the centre of London. It’s a small restaurant that doesn’t take reservations (except for a large group) so you can imagine the wait to get a table at peak time. I skipped a university law lecture a few years back (real dedication) when it first opened eager to try the posh pairing of hot dogs and champagne, as well as avoid the peak time wait – it was worth it, who needs contract law in life anyway!?

I went to Bubbledogs again last weekend for their Hip Hop Brunch to celebrate my bestie’s birthday. I love a good brunch and I love hip hop. Win-win. My expectations were pretty high after reading the description on their website which boasts hip hop music, a brunch party and special brunch hot dogs.

The great thing about Bubbledogs is as a vegetarian you are in no way limited to a couple of items on the menu. The world is your oyster here as you can have any hot dog with a vegetarian sausage. There are some weird yet surprisingly wonderful combinations to try. I had the ‘José’ which was a delicious Mexican style hot dog including guacamole, salsa, jalapenos and sour cream. We shared tots and sweet potato fries which were also very good. However, I was disappointed that there was no brunch aspect to our hot dogs. Supposedly the brunch dogs can come with an egg but we were not offered this option.

The playlist was an old school hip hop lover’s dream with everything from Black Street to Jay Z, but somebody needed to turn it up! For a brunch that is specifically advertised as a Hip Hop brunch party I expected it to be a bit livelier, or at least louder music.
